Leona Hazlett, Support Worker
Leona Hazlett joined Apex in July 2022 and is currently a Support Worker in Abbey House in Derry~Londonderry, which provides ‘Housing with Care’ for older people. We sat down with Leona to chat about her role, what Apex is like as an employer and how she relaxes outside of work.

Describe what your job involves:
Supporting tenants in everyday living, helping to meet their needs. It is so important to listen to each tenant’s wishes and in turn promote their independence as much as possible. It’s so rewarding to work with the team and know that I am able to make a difference.
Describe Apex in three words:
Person centred care.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?
I would encourage them to give it a good try and don’t underestimate your ability. Every day is a new day.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy socialising with friends.
What did you want to be when growing up?
A hairdresser.
What is the first concert you attended?
Westlife.
What is your favourite film?
Grease.

Stay positive. Never give up!
