Our Welfare Advice Team can support, advise and assist you with your financial situation, whether it is budgeting or applying for benefits. The service they provide is confidential, impartial and free of charge.

Our Welfare Advice Team can…
- Offer tailored advice based on your individual situation, which can be done in person or over the phone.
- Assess your circumstances to complete benefit checks, ensuring you receive your full and correct benefit entitlements.
- Offer budgeting advice based on your financial situation.
- Assist in benefit appeals, such as overpayments and decisions.
- Assist in applications for grants and funding.

Joe* was allocated an Apex property following a period of homelessness. Having been in temporary accommodation, Joe was beginning his tenancy with no furnishings or white goods. Following a consultation with Welfare Advice Officer, Hayley, Joe was assisted and successfully awarded £1,800 from Discretionary Support and received a starter pack of essential household goods.
Joe says… “The welfare advice team has been amazing. Without them I would never have known about the help available. I love my new home; and thanks to Hayley, I have everything I need to enjoy living in it too.”
After reading an Apex Cost of Living newsletter, Margaret* contacted our Welfare Advice service for a benefit check. We identified that Margaret had health conditions but had never claimed disability benefits. Margaret was assisted in applying for Attendance Allowance and in March 2024 was awarded £61.85 per week. As a result, she also became entitled to a severe disability premium through her Pension credit. Overall, Margaret then received an additional £131.25 per week better off.
