Name: Valerie Morrison
Job role: Good Relations Officer
Describe what your job involves.
I support the delivery of the ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme by helping tenants build positive relationships through inclusive good relations programmes and events. I also work with local communities to promote integration and create mixed, welcoming neighbourhoods where people of different religions, cultures and social backgrounds can live together and thrive.
What do you like most about your job?
Being able to help local groups run programmes that really make a difference to their communities.
Describe Apex in three words.
Community-focused. Supportive. Understanding.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?
Attend all meetings and events to get to know your colleagues in other housing associations as you will learn something new from each of them and make links which will serve you well in your work.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to read, go on walks, cook, and meet friends regularly for catch-ups.
What did you want to be when growing up?
A dental nurse.
What is the first concert you attended?
Christy Moore.
What is your favourite film?
BAT 21 with Gene Hackman & Danny Glover. This is an old one! I love the relationship that develops between the two, one in the plane and the other in the jungle, as they navigate the rescue.
Favourite motto or personal mantra?
Progress over perfection.
