Julie McClelland, Housing Officer

Julie McClelland has been a Housing Officer with Apex for almost five years, working from Head Office in Derry~Londonderry. We sat down with Julie to find out a bit more about the Housing Officer role, her views on Apex as an employer and how she enjoys spending her spare time outside of work.

Describe what your job involves
Housing officers are responsible for the day-to-day management of properties within a defined patch. We offer advice and guidance in response to housing related matters and support people to maintain their tenancies.
What do you like most about your job?
I love that no two days are the same and seeing the smile on people’s faces when they are handed the keys to their new home.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?
It’s a fast-paced job providing the opportunity to work directly with people; and no two cases are the same. The role can be challenging at times, but mainly very rewarding.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love a good book, or putting my headphones on and going a long walk.
What did you want to be when growing up?
I wanted to be a teacher but learned very quickly it was not for me!
What is the first concert you attended?
Robbie Williams, Slane 1999
What is your favourite film?
My favourite time of the year is Christmas and in the lead up I love watching ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ with the fire blazing.
Favourite motto or personal mantra?
A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.
