Video highlights vital work of harm reduction hostel

A short video about the House in the Wells harm reduction hostel in Derry~Londonderry was produced recently by a group of local young people.
The hostel, owned and managed by Apex Housing Association, provides accommodation and support for 24 men with addiction issues. It is part funded by Supporting People.
As part of a project with Headliners, a group of young people from Rutledge Training in the city visited the hostel and interviewed its manager Andy Bonner and some residents to highlight the work of the scheme and the impact it has.
Conor Nixon, one of the young people involved in making the video, said:
I had never heard of the House in the Wells before and it was good to find out more about the important work that it does. I really enjoyed learning the camera skills and talking to the staff and residents at the centre.
Andy Bonner, Manager of The House in the Wells, commented:
The group from Headliners who spent time in the hostel did so with dignity and respect and showed a genuine interest in the hostel and what we do. For many years we have encouraged young people to experience the hostel either through community projects or placement from North West Regional College. It’s important that we engage with young people and let them gain knowledge of the hostel and the work we do, and for them to experience the human cost of homelessness and addiction.
