Urgent call for volunteers

As a result of the likelihood of staff shortages in the coming period due to the spread of Covid-19, Apex Housing Association is calling on members of the public to consider volunteering to support and care for the vulnerable groups it works with on a daily basis.
The organisation is drawing up a list of volunteers for roles within Apex’s supported living schemes and nursing homes in Derry~Londonderry, Coleraine, Omagh, Castlederg, Strabane, Limavady and Belfast should it be required.
Volunteer roles available:
- Care Assistants
- Support Workers
- Catering Assistants
- Housekeeping staff
- Administration Assistants
Apex owns and manages a range of schemes including accommodation and nursing homes for older people and supported housing for people with mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, alcohol/drug addictions, those who are physically disabled and young people in need of support.
Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex, explains:
Over the last number of weeks many of our staff and volunteers have been forced to self-isolate due to Covid-19 and going forward we expect this to increase. We provide essential care and support to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and these services must continue despite the challenges facing us.
We are acutely aware of the pressures facing individuals and families at this time, but we also know there are people who have the time and the desire to help others during this difficult period. We hope these people will get in touch to hear more about how they can become a short-term volunteer with us to help us continue providing our essential services to the most vulnerable.
If you’re interested in learning more about the volunteer roles on offer, please phone Apex on 028 7130 4800, leaving a message with your name and number. Your call will be returned within two hours.
