This May…Don’t Mow, Let It Grow!
Join Apex for No Mow May! Let wildflowers like daisies, dandelions and clovers grow while supporting bees and butterflies.
As a business supporter of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, Apex is committed to encouraging biodiversity in its communities so that important pollinators can thrive.
Over the summer, our estates team will be establishing short flower meadows in some green areas in Apex communities, and we are also encouraging our tenants and residents to mow their lawns less often to help boost local pollinator populations.
What is No Mow May?
No Mow May is an annual campaign led by Plantlife urging everyone to pack away the lawnmower, let wildflowers grow freely and help nature. No matter where you live, it’s easy to take part.
No lawn is too small! Even the smallest wild patch can provide vital food needed by bees and butterflies, connecting us with nature and giving nature the best start to summer.
Why should I take part?
Allowing native wildflowers to grow is one of the best ways you can help biodiversity.
These precious plants have evolved on our island for many thousands of years and are
perfectly adapted to support other native species, especially pollinators.
In recent years, bright, colourful wildflower seed mixes have become popular, but they can actually damage biodiversity. Many claim to be ‘native’ or ‘bee friendly’, but there is no regulation over their content, and studies have shown they often contain non-native species or seeds that have been sourced overseas and are not adapted to our soil and climate. They can also accidentally introduce invasive species. Real native wildflowers don’t need to come from a packet.

How do I take part?
Just put your lawnmower away and allow your garden to welcome native wildflowers like Dandelions, Clover and Birds-foot trefoil! Even the smallest wild patch can make a difference.
You can join No Mow May on the Plantlife website, and you will receive information, advice and updates throughout the month.
