Tamara wins Derry Journal People of the Year Award!

Last week, one of Apex’s Housing Officers, Tamara McShane, won a Derry Journal People of the Year Award in the ‘Inspirational Young Person’ category.
Teresa McCloskey from Apex, who nominated Tamara for the award, commented:
We’re absolutely delighted that Tamara has been recognised through this award. Not only is she a fantastic Housing Officer, going above and beyond for tenants every day; her story and her journey into the housing sector is one of courage and determination. It will undoubtedly inspire other young people and help them believe in themselves, regardless of their start in life.
Tamara started working for Apex last year. In her role, she visits tenants for routine landlord issues, but her own background has given her a unique insight that allows her to identify and help households who are struggling. She works during and often after working hours to help her tenants that need that extra support.
Tamara McShane said she was honoured and humbled to receive the award at the ceremony in the Waterfoot Hotel in Derry~Londonderry, commenting:
Growing up I thought I was never good enough to have nice things and never thought my worth amounted to anything. Since I started working with Apex I have started thinking differently. I’ve only been here for a year but it’s been the best year. The positivity and encouragement that I have received from my colleagues is amazing and to be given this award has truly meant the world to me.
I want to thank Teresa McCloskey and my senior colleague Seana Hippsley for taking the time to listen to my story, and for their ongoing support and encouragement.
