St Julian’s House celebrates 30 years of support, friendship and community
Tenants, families and staff at St Julian’s House in Omagh came together to celebrate a special milestone, marking 30 years of support, friendship and community at the much-loved scheme.
Owned and managed by Apex Housing Association (Apex), St Julian’s House provides housing with care and sheltered accommodation for people aged over 60. During the last three decades, it has played an important role in supporting older people to live independently while remaining connected to their local community.
The anniversary celebrations saw guests enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, followed by live music in the evening, providing an opportunity to reflect on cherished memories and celebrate the lasting impact St Julian’s House has had over the past 30 years.
Speaking at the event, Anne McCrory, Manager of St Julian’s House, said:
When the doors first opened in 1996, the aim was to create a place where older people could remain independent and active through tailored care and support. Over the last 30 years, we have welcomed many tenants and staff through our doors. Along the way, we have shared countless celebrations, made many memories and said goodbye to friends who will always remain part of St Julian’s story. Through it all, the warmth, kindness and sense of community that make St Julian’s House so special have never changed.
I would like to thank Apex and our dedicated staff team, past and present, particularly the many support workers who have provided outstanding care and support in this wonderful facility. We look forward to the next 30 years of St Julian’s House and to continuing our work in and for the community.

Reflecting on life at St Julian’s House, sheltered housing tenant Maureen Carlin, who moved to the scheme over two years ago, said:
I was a bit dubious at first, but I’ve settled in now and I think it’s a great place. In a house of your own, you don’t always see people, but here there’s always someone to say hello to and have a chat with. If you want company, it’s there, and if you want your own space, that’s fine too. As you get older, you get a bit lonelier as your circle of people gets smaller and smaller, so it’s nice to have the company here in such a friendly atmosphere. Most importantly, I feel safe and secure here. The staff are always on hand to help if needed. It’s friendly, welcoming and a lovely place to live.
Liam Taggart, who has lived at St Julian’s House for eight years and receives housing with care support, added:
I liked St Julian’s House from the first day I came here. The food is good, the support is excellent and the staff team is brilliant. They help me get up in the morning, get dressed and provide support during the day and evening. Whenever I need help, it’s there. St Julian’s House is a great place to live, and without a doubt, the staff are some of the best people you could ever meet.
Malachy Fagan has been living in St Julian’s House for 18 years and is the scheme’s longest sheltered housing tenant:
Since I moved to St Julian’s House, I never looked back. It’s the best. Absolute luxury! I love the staff and have lots of banter with them. I honestly don’t know myself living here, I have a roof over my head, freedom to do my own bits and pieces and the staff team is first class.
