The staff team at Belmont Cottages who have been announced as finalists in the 'Best Housing Story' category of CIH Housing Awards 2020Public urged to vote for Belmont Cottages!

A supported living scheme in Derry~Londonderry that supports adults with learning disabilities has been announced as a finalist in the ‘Best Housing Story’ category of the 2020 CIH Housing Awards.

Apex Housing Association, which owns and manages the scheme, is now calling on members of the public to get behind the local facility; encouraging people to vote for the scheme’s inspiring and poignant story.
Deirdre Walker, Apex’s Director of Supported Living, commented:
The staff team at Belmont Cottages is deserving of this award because of the compassion and care they showed towards someone in the end stages of their life. They embraced the value and importance of home; and overcame all obstacles to ensure a resident remained at home during a remarkable and emotive time for all.
Not only did they provide 24/7 comfort and support to this lady in her final weeks, working outside the perimeters of their own roles; they brought Christmas to Belmont Cottages in October so that she could celebrate Christmas one last time in a special way.
Seamus Crossan, Manager of Belmont Cottages, said:
It is an honour to be shortlisted for this award and it is uplifting for the staff to see that the care and compassion we deliver has been recognised.
The CIH Housing Awards will take place at Titanic Belfast on Friday 21st February 2020. The awards celebrate and recognise the breadth of work across the housing sector in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, showcasing the amazing work and inspirational people seen in communities every day.
Members of the public are encouraged to read Belmont Cottages’ story and vote online via the CIH website by Friday 24 January 2020.
