New £2.1m housing development completed in Swatragh
Ten families have been welcomed into new homes at Church Drive, a recently completed housing development in Swatragh delivered by Apex Housing Association (Apex).
The development consists of seven semi-detached three-bedroom homes, one detached three-bedroom home and two one-bedroom apartments, providing accommodation for up to 42 people. The scheme was delivered through a private finance investment of approximately £2.1 million by Apex.
For new tenant and mother of three, Roisin McLaughlin, receiving the keys to her new three-bedroom home was an emotional moment:
We’re still only moving in, so it hasn’t really quite hit me yet. My whole family is all from Swatragh so I’ll be close to them, which will be nice. It’ll be great to have that sense of community in the neighbourhood, because currently we live in the countryside, so we don’t have any neighbours. My children will be able to make some new friends and get outside and play with them. It’s just so nice to know that it’s going to be our home forever. I feel so lucky that I’ve been offered the house, and I’m beyond grateful.
Donna Matthewson, Apex’s Executive Director of Housing & Communities, commented:
The completion of these ten homes at Church Drive is a positive step in building sustainable communities where people can thrive. Developments like this are especially important in rural areas, giving local families access to high-quality, affordable homes while staying close to their roots and support networks. We’re delighted to see these homes now occupied and the difference they will make for both tenants and the wider Swatragh community.
