Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey has praised Apex Housing Association’s development of 44 new homes in Dungannon.
The Sycamore Drive project on Killymeal Road will deliver homes for people waiting on a social home, with five homes developed specifically for people with complex needs, enabling them to live as independently as possible in the community. The final homes in the development are due to complete in September this year.
The £6.1m scheme has been funded with £3.4m from the Department for Communities, delivered through the Housing Executive, with a further £2.7m in private finance through Apex.
Minister Hargey said:
I am committed to delivering the most radical transformation of housing system in 50 years. We will deliver more homes where they are needed, for those who need them most. This new development in Dungannon, with its mix of houses and apartments, will provide high quality homes for the community for years to come.
I am pleased to see the housing in this development will cater for both individuals and families to include people with complex needs such as elderly people and people with disabilities.
I have increased our investment in the new build programme this year to £162m in order to deliver many more homes such as this for individuals and families across our society who need them.
I want to commend Apex on the progress made with what will be a high quality development which future tenants will be able to call home very soon.
Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex Housing Association, commented:
It was our pleasure to welcome Minister Hargey to Sycamore Drive and Sycamore Hill in Dungannon to show her the many high quality homes we have developed for those in housing need in the local area.
With the support of the Minister and her department, we have been able to provide 60 much needed homes for families and those with complex needs over the last few years. We very much look forward to handing over the keys of the final eight homes to new tenants later this year.
