Last week marked the end of an era at Apex as the team came together to bid farewell to a very special colleague. Kevin Butler, Apex’s Executive Director of Assets, retired after an extraordinary 31 years of dedicated service to the organisation.
Kevin first joined North & West Housing, now Apex, in 1994 as a Maintenance Officer. His talent and leadership saw him progress to the role of Head of Maintenance, before being appointed Director in 2004. Over the years, he played a key role in Apex’s significant expansion, both geographically and in the number of households served. He was also instrumental in developing and strengthening Apex’s supported living provision, helping to shape services that continue to make a real difference today.
Described by many as a true gentleman, Kevin supported countless tenants, residents and colleagues throughout his career. His friendly, caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of working with him or sharing his company.
Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex, commented:
Kevin’s dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment to our tenants and staff have shaped Apex in ways that will be felt for many years to come. He brought compassion to every decision and professionalism to every challenge, and we are deeply grateful for the legacy he leaves behind. While we will miss his steady presence and good humour, we wish him every happiness in his well deserved retirement.
On his last day of work at Apex, Kevin Butler, spoke to a crowded room in Apex’s Butcher Street office in Derry~Londonderry saying:
This organisation has grown from very humble beginnings into a truly outstanding provider of homes for families who need them. You are all a fabulous group of people, and everything we’ve achieved has been down to the collective expertise across the organisation. It’s a testament to all of us – not just me standing here today.
I’ve genuinely loved every day of work at Apex. People have been asking all week if I’m winding down, but it’s been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had – because at Apex, we’re here to help, and we’ve always been here to help. I know that will continue long after I’ve stepped away.
Thank you all. I wish each of you the very best, and I have every confidence that Apex will continue to thrive, and I’m proud to have played a part in its journey.
