Join Apex for No Mow May!
This May…Don’t Mow, Let It Grow! Help us provide more food for bees and other pollinators by taking part in No Mow May and let wildflowers grow in your garden!
As a business supporter of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, Apex is committed to encouraging biodiversity in its communities so that important pollinators can thrive.
Over the summer, our estates team will be establishing short flower meadows in some green areas in Apex communities, and we are also encouraging our tenants and residents to mow their lawns less often to help boost local pollinator populations.
What is No Mow May?
No Mow May is an annual campaign led by Plantlife urging everyone to pack away the lawnmower, let wildflowers grow freely and help nature. No matter where you live, it’s easy to take part.
No lawn is too small! Even the smallest wild patch can provide vital food needed by bees and butterflies, connecting us with nature and giving nature the best start to summer.
Why should I take part?
According to Plantlife, around 97% of flower-rich meadows have been lost since the 1930s, and with them, vital food and habitat needed by wildlife. A healthy lawn with some longer grass and wildflowers helps to tackle pollution, benefits wildlife and can even lock away carbon below the ground.
According to the National Biodiversity Data Centre:
On the island of Ireland, one third of our wild bees are threatened with extinction. This is mainly because of hunger – there isn’t enough food to support them in our landscape. If all of us chose to put our lawnmowers away for one month, we could start creating a network of places where pollinators can survive and thrive.
How do I take part?
Just put your lawnmower away and allow your garden to welcome native wildflowers like Dandelions, Clover and Birds-foot trefoil! Even the smallest wild patch can make a difference.
You can join No Mow May on the Plantlife website, and you will receive information, advice and updates throughout the month.
If you’re an Apex tenant or resident, you can enter our No Mow May competition and be in with a chance to win a £50 garden centre voucher. Just take some photos of your ‘No Mow’ area and the send them along with your name and address to estates@apex.org.uk.
Closing date for entries: Friday 13 June 2025
