Gardening Club at Fr Mulvey House celebrates another successful year.

On Friday 7th October 2016, Apex’s sheltered housing tenants in Fr Mulvey House, Derry / Londonderry held their Annual Harvest BBQ to celebrate the Gardening Club and Apex’s partnership with the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum “Garden in a Box” project.
The event was a great success and special thanks go to Lidl who supported the event and supplied food. Celebrity chef and Lidl ambassador Ian Orr was in attendance and spent time chatting and giving advice and tips on cooking and recipes.

Also included is Bredge Shettle, Manager at Fr Mulvey and Apex Housing Officer Karen Collins
During the event a presentation was made to Fr Mulvey tenant Mr Eddie Kennedy for special achievement for his efforts and hard work in his garden. Eddie has lived in the sheltered scheme for 7 years and has worked wonders in his garden and surrounding areas where he has dug out all the old vegetation and prepared new beds and raised boxes for growing. He said,
I have received many compliments on the garden.
The gardening club meets on a monthly basis and this year had a healthy harvest of vegetables which were used to make healthy nutritious meals.
Manager at Fr Mulvey House: Bredge Shettle said:
The garden club plays an important role here and the fruit and vegetables grown in the greenhouse and gardens are important in providing healthy meals for the members.
In the coming year we hope more tenants will become involved, whether as gardeners or appreciative onlookers in this therapeutic enterprise.
