Educational opportunities for Apex tenants in Newcastle

The South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Newcastle would like to invite all Apex tenants in that area to their open day on Tuesday 17th January 2017 from 11am – 8pm. The event will be an opportunity for tenants to learn about the range of courses on offer and talk to the tutors.
The event has been organised by SERC to help and support the local community re-engage in education and training. Attendees will learn about the range of qualifications on offer including Essential Skills, Restart Education, Access to Education and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).
SERC Campus Manager Paul Walsh explains:
“We are delighted to be hosting this event to open people’s minds to the huge opportunities that exist within the College. The event is designed to promote the benefits of returning to education and the support mechanisms that SERC offer to help overcome barriers to education that people may face. I would urge the local community to attend the event to see for themselves what is on offer. Most of us appreciate the benefits of having more qualifications, but worry if we are good enough or if we can afford to take time off work to study. That’s why we are developing the community education hub at the Newcastle campus to help, advise and guide people back into education.”
Supporting our tenants into education will benefit our tenants in the short term
Michael Lyttle, Financial Inclusion Officer at Apex said:
“With the changes in Welfare Reform being implemented over the next few years getting back into work will be beneficial for our tenants. Apex feels that supporting our tenants back into education will not only benefit them in the short term but also in the long term when it comes to finding employment.”
