Closure of House Sales Scheme – fact sheet published

A fact sheet has been published by the Department for Communities (DfC) to provide answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the closure of the statutory House Sales Scheme in August 2022. This scheme enables eligible tenants to purchase their social home supported by a discount.
The fact sheet has been produced providing high level information for tenants and includes some ‘what does this mean for me’ FAQs whilst also providing advice and links for tenants who wish to apply to purchase their home before the deadline.

Applications to the House Sales Scheme must be made before midnight on 27 August 2022. No applications can be accepted after that time. As long as an application is made before midnight on 27 August 2022, the application may be processed and the sale may complete after that date.
The closure of the House Sales Scheme on 28 August 2022 reflects legislation passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly on 30 June 2020 and given Royal Assent on 28 August 2020.
