People enjoying the activities at the fun dayBallymagowan Fun Day

Apex recently awarded five grants from its Community Involvement Forum Grant Fund. Bogside and Brandywell Initiative (BBI) from Derry / Londonderry was one of the successful applicants.
BBI used their grant funding to organise a Community Fun Day at the allotments in Ballymagowan. The allotments were opened last September and include a polytunnel, tool shed, classroom and planting beds for disabled use, all of which are used regularly by the community and managed by BBI. The allotments sit beside the community park, playing pitches and children’s play area also provided by Apex.

Over three hundred people attended the fun day with many of them coming from Apex’s neighbouring Ballymagowan and Magowan housing schemes.
Those who attended were able to enjoy a vast array of events from bug hunts, wild birds of prey, an animal petting farm, bats and members of the local football club were there demonstrating skills for the children.

Councillor Kevin Campbell from BBI said, “This was a great event which will be built upon for next year. This event gave us an opportunity to showcase the allotment project and community park”
