Apex wins award for tackling disadvantage and building vibrant communities

Apex Housing Association scooped the Investing in your Community Award at Business in the Community’s 2019 Responsible Business Awards, held in the International Convention Centre in Belfast last night.
More than 600 business people from across Northern Ireland attended the annual gala dinner to see Northern Ireland’s leading responsible companies recognised for outstanding contributions to their people, the planet and the places where they operate.
The Investing in your Communities Award, sponsored by Caterpillar, was awarded to Apex Housing Association for demonstrating commitment to going beyond core business objectives to tackle poverty and disadvantage within communities, supporting tenants and ensuring its estates are sustainable and vibrant.
Teresa McCloskey from Apex commented:
“We are delighted to be recognised as a company that goes above and beyond our main business of providing homes. We know many Apex tenants struggle to manage on low incomes, so we have committed to a substantial community investment programme to support tenants who are living in financial stress and to ensure our estates are sustainable and vibrant places where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. This work is as important as providing homes for people.”
“This award acknowledges our efforts to tackle disadvantage by establishing Apex Food Club, working in partnership to found Foyle Foodbank, developing the fantastic Ballymagowan Allotments in Creggan, providing lunch for local older people at Abbey House Luncheon Club and developing an affordable credit project with Derry Credit Union for people who would otherwise turn to payday and doorstep lenders. It also recognises the support we have provided to develop two villages in Tanzania, Africa, through our ongoing partnership with Children in Crossfire.”
Kieran Harding, Managing Director, Business in the Community said:
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate each and every one of our winners for leading the way in responsible business practice. The standard for entries was phenomenally high and I hope that the achievements of the companies recognised will inspire others on their responsible business journey.”
