Apex steers towards sustainability
Apex Housing Association (Apex) recently upgraded its maintenance team’s vehicle fleet to a more sustainable option by introducing four new Hybrid Ford Transit vans.
The new vans will allow the team to switch between electric and petrol power, helping to reduce carbon emissions whilst ensuring the team can undertake extended travel for repair and construction projects.
Margaret Rose Doherty from Apex Housing Association explains:
We understand the importance of playing our part in addressing climate change, so when it came to our most recent phase of fleet replacement, we knew we had to consider more sustainable options. These hybrid vans will allow our maintenance team to drive up to 35 miles on electric alone, with the ability to switch to petrol for longer journeys. The team will also have access to fuel insights and data to help them improve efficiency and reduce engine idling costs.
Apex launched its first sustainability strategy in 2023, marking the beginning of a more focused approach to reducing the organisation’s environmental impact. Initiatives have included energy efficiency projects for both new and existing homes, a focus on biodiversity through the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and carbon literacy training for Apex staff.
