Abbey House has celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and events were held on the 11th May to mark this milestone.
Abbey House was built by Apex in 1986 and offers accommodation to 12 Supported Living tenants and 18 Sheltered Housing tenants and is situated in the Little Diamond area of L’Derry within walking distance to the city centre.
Celebrations began with a coffee morning and a group photograph taken of the current tenants. This was followed by a prayer service of thanksgiving and remembrance of past tenants.
Special recognition was given to Mr Patrick Gallagher who has lived in Abbey House since it first opened on the 11th March 1986 and was its first tenant.

“Working Together to Keep Me Safe”
During the event Abbey House launched their “Working Together to Keep Me Safe” campaign whereby staff pledged their commitment to adult safeguarding. The project which was launched by the Western Local Adult Safeguarding Partnership (LASP) aims to increase awareness of adult safeguarding in nursing, residential and supported living centres. It encompasses residents with mental ill health, learning disabilities and older people.
After lunch the residents enjoyed a tea dance with live music. Tenants, their families and visitors from the local community thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
