A chat with our Safeguarding Manager
Emma Hassan is Apex’s Safeguarding Manager, with over 18 years’ experience in social care and 13 years as a qualified social worker in child protection and adult safeguarding.
We sat down with Emma to find out more about safeguarding at Apex.
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is about protecting people’s right to live in safety, free from abuse or neglect. It’s making sure that vulnerable adults are supported in a way that allows them to live with dignity, have their voice heard, and feel safe in their homes and communities.
What does Apex do to maintain a safe environment for tenants and residents?
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Apex. We promote a culture where staff feel confident raising concerns and where tenants are empowered to speak up. We have clear procedures in place and provide ongoing training and support to staff. We work closely with external partners like NHS Trusts and PSNI to make sure concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?
No two days are the same! I support managers and staff with any safeguarding concerns, deliver safeguarding training and keep our internal procedures up to date. I also liaise with external safeguarding teams and ensure that all concerns are reported through the correct channels.
How should someone get in touch if they have a question or concern about safeguarding?
If you’re worried about yourself or someone else, you can contact me directly or speak to any of our housing officers. If you’re unsure whether something is a safeguarding issue, it’s still worth a chat. We’re here to listen, support and help keep people safe.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If we all stay aware and speak up when something doesn’t feel right, we can help create a safer, more supportive environment for all our tenants and residents.
