Role/purpose of the staff nurse
Responsibility for staff and scheme in the absence of the Nurse Manager. To ensure that the provision of care is appropriate to the social, emotional and physical needs of each resident. To assist with the proper administration, management and maintenance of the scheme in accordance with the Association’s standards, policies and procedures.
Key areas and activities
Care/Support
- To work with the Nurse Manager to create a caring and supportive environment for residents whilst encouraging maximum independence.
- To ensure high standards of care are maintained at all times which reflect the social, emotional and physical needs of each resident. To be involved with residents meetings and ensure residents wishes are incorporated into the running of the scheme.
- To work with the Nurse Manager to coordinate the cleaning/cooking provision within the scheme.
- To coordinate and participate in social activities organised with residents.
Record Keeping
- To participate with the Nurse Manager in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for each resident.
- To maintain all records identified as necessary by the Association and Inspection agencies. To review and evaluate these records as
required. - To work with the Nurse Manager to ensure confidentiality within the scheme is maintained by all staff.
- To work with the Nurse Manager to ensure Association Policies, Procedures and Standards are adhered to and properly implemented by
staff.
Resident’s money
- To liaise with the Housing & Care Services Department regarding changes to resident’s benefits and rents.
Supervision
- To take responsibility for the supervision of staff and the management of the scheme in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
Self-development
- To participate with the training and education of staff.
- To attend and participate in general staff meetings and training meetings where appropriate.
Health and safety and risk management
- To participate in fire drills as recommended by the local fire prevention officer and observe and promote the Associations Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
Emergencies
- To answer emergency calls and summon assistance as necessary and appropriate.
- To undertake direct hands on support in emergencies until the required assistance arrives.
Miscellaneous
- To liaise with various departments within the office as required.
- To assist the Officer In Charge in all daily activities.
- To carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the Chief Executive.

Personnel Specification
Education/qualifications/attainments
Essential criteria:
- Qualified RGN/SEN
- Must be currently registered on the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
Relevant experience
Essential criteria:
- Experience working with vulnerable adults / frail & elderly
Desirable criteria:
- Community/Residential experience.
- Experience of supervising staff.
Specialist knowledge/training
Essential criteria:
- Demonstrates required job knowledge and desire to learn new skills.
- Demonstrate specific knowledge of caring for the elderly and age related health issues.
- Awareness of appropriate record keeping and confidentiality in care.
- Self-motivated and ability to use personal initiative to work with minimum instruction.
Personal skills
Essential criteria:
- Ability to plan, organise and priorities workloads and routines.
- Ability to attain the highest standard of care and promote client satisfaction levels at all times.
- Ability to manage complaints and concerns efficiently.

Circumstances
Essential criteria:
- Flexible re hours required to work.
Desireable criteria:
- Mobile with full time access to car. This criteria will be waved in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving, but who is able to arrange suitable alternative arrangements.
