Launch of Neighbourhood Charter

Apex’s housing scheme at Ballynafoy Close, Ravenhill Road, Belfast is the first Together: Building United Communities (T:BUC) development in Northern Ireland. As part of our Good Relations Plan we have been working with tenants to develop a Good Neighbour Charter for the estate.

The work on the Charter began during the summer scheme attended by young people from the estate last year. They looked at the T:BUC principles and worked with support group, Alternatives NI, to explore these in more depth. These principles formed the basis for the Charter.

There was a consensus that the Charter should provide an opportunity for all the Ballynafoy residents to become involved with and instead of simply having a written Charter the young people were keen to have something visual that everyone could create together. Consequently it was decided to create a mosaic made up of tiles that expressed the T:BUC principles with the younger residents working in groups to make their own tile.

Local artists – Red Earth Designs then worked with each group to create their tiles during the summer scheme which were then used to create a wonderful mosaic which was celebrated at a family fun night.

The Charter was then officially launched at a family celebration event on the 15th March.
