Apex top CIH’s great housing stories’ shortlist

The Chartered Institute of Housing, the professional body which sets standards in housing across the UK and Ireland, has highlighted three award-winning Apex schemes in its annual Best Housing Practice publication.
CIH has over 21,000 members, mostly in the UK and Ireland.
Earlier this year Apex won two categories outright and was highly commended in the third at the CIH’s prestigious annual awards ceremony held at Titanic, Belfast.
Apex’s programme of delivering purpose-designed homes for families with complex needs was singled out for special distinction with particular reference to a house in Dungiven and one in Brookborough, both of which afforded family members with challenging physical disabilities, unprecedented independence, privacy and comfort. The human stories behind these transformative projects so impressed the judges that they quoted liberally from the families themselves in their latest issue.

The CIH publication also features Apex’s partnership with a local charity to provide health services to residents in its homeless hostel in Derry / Londonderry after two of their residents died from cancer-related illnesses.
Finally Apex’s role in setting up the Foyle Foodbank to provide emergency food in the Derry / Londonderry area and the ongoing working relationship between the two was also recognised.
