Over the last year Apex have developed a really brilliant relationship with Dogs Trust.
Dogs Trust offer free microchipping for dogs, as well as giving dog owners general advice.
Working in partnership with Dogs Trust, we have been able to bring this service out into our communities, allowing our tenants to avail of this excellent service on their doorstep.
We are working with Dogs Trust to further develop the partnership in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled for their van in your estate!
The Tenant Participation team spent a really informative morning at the Dogs Trust centre in Ballymena; we discussed ways to improve the partnership, and then we met some puppies!
We thought it would be beneficial for tenants to get more information about Deirdre, the Dogs Trust Campaigns Officer, who will be out in the estates chipping the dogs, so we asked Deirdre to tell us a bit more about herself and her own dogs!
“My name is Deirdre and I am the Campaigns Officer for Dogs Trust in Ballymena. My job role includes going into different areas all across Northern Ireland with my big yellow Dogs Trust van and getting to meet lots of beautiful dogs and their lovely owners. We offer free microchipping (any dog under 6 months must be fully vaccinated), free information leaflets, free “Check your Chip” service and free poo bags right at your doorstep so it is very convenient. No appointment is needed so just drop by with your dog on a lead. I am also on hand to answer any questions you may have about your furry friends!
As a big dog lover I have two beautiful dogs myself. Lucy (13 years) a foxhound/collie cross and Hero (4 years) a Dalmatian who I got from Dogs Trust 3 years ago. Lucy is a very gentle dog and has mothered every animal I have had including dogs, cats, rabbits and even ducks! She LOVES getting out for her walks and although she has gone deaf now she may not be able to hear the treat bag rustle but she is definitely always on the lookout for it. Hero is a typical young dog with lots of energy so we go on nice long walks together. I have always wanted a Dalmatian and my dream finally came through 3 years ago when Hero came into rescue. He is a great boy and I wouldn’t be without either of them.
