Apex Celebrates International Older Persons Day 2017

Apex, in partnership with Choice Housing, Clanmil and Radius hosted an afternoon tea dance and information event in the Maldron Hotel on Monday 2nd October to celebrate International Day of Older Persons.
Ellen Hall, Supported Housing Manager at Apex welcomed everyone to the event which provided a wonderful opportunity to work in partnership with other agencies to ensure that our elderly citizens have access to advice and support on issues that matter to them. She re-confirmed Apex’s commitment to the safety, health and well-being of our more senior tenants.
Eamonn Donaghy, Chief Executive of the Age Sector Platform spoke to guests about the work of his organisation and its signature project, the Northern Ireland Pensioners Parliament. The Parliament provides older people with an opportunity to highlight issues of priority and concern for them and engage directly with politicians and policy makers. Since it was established in 2011, around 2,000 older people have attended the Parliament and around 5,000 have engaged in campaigns aimed at issues affecting older people. Over the past few months Eamonn has presented to Tenant Participation Forums and a number of housing associations. As a membership organisation, Age Sector Platform is keen to welcome individuals and groups of older people into its network.
Apex extends its thanks and appreciation to the agencies who attended the event:
Advice NI, Age Concern, Ally Foyle, Arthritis Care, Consumer Council, Drink Wise Age Well. PSNI Crime Prevention
