6-Week courses:
- We offer a 6-week option and the sessions last 2.5 hours with a break in between.
- Our courses are delivered by two accredited tutors who are volunteers and who have lived experience of conditions where they need to manage pain and other symptoms.
- The content of the course looks at the Self-Management Toolbox that is part of research carried out by Stanford University, Self-Management Resource Centre and a range of Healthcare Professionals and this research is continuously being reviewed to make sure it is still relevant, and evidence based.
- Our courses are aimed at those who are keen to take an active role in managing the symptoms and impact of these on their lives.
The toolbox includes:
- Action planning
- Distraction techniques
- Problem solving
- Improving sleep
- Moving more
- Healthy eating
Each week the group build on these tools and others discussed along with the support of their peers. Our volunteer tutors all attended courses previously and benefited from these which is why they decided to train to support others. So, by the end of the course, people will be able to use whatever tools work best for them to manage conditions well.
