Nicki Dickson, Nurse
Nicki Dickson has worked as a Nurse in Belmont Cottages, Derry~Londonderry since September 2022. Belmont Cottages offers accommodation, support and care for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. We sat down with Nicki to chat about her role, what Apex is like as an employer and how she spends her free time outside of work.

Describe what your job involves
My role involves providing a high standard of care to the residents. For example, assisting them with daily living activities such as washing and dressing, or accompanying them on bus runs or social events. I also provide support to residential workers, carrying out training and supervisions with staff. Finally, I complete some administrative work, such as weekly monies, timesheets and medication audits.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy assisting and caring for the residents on a daily basis. It can be challenging, but is extremely rewarding.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?
Research and think about the specialty of nursing you enter, and don’t be afraid to change!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have volunteered for a missing animal charity and love anything dog related. I’m always busy with my 2- and 3-year-old daughters.
What did you want to be when growing up?
A Traffic Warden!

Hearsay in the Odyssey Arena.
What is your favourite film?
American Psycho or Donnie Darko.
