Lisa McAllister, Care Assistant

Lisa McAllister has been a Care Assistant with Apex for four years and works in Daleview House in Derry~Londonderry. We met up with Lisa to chat about her role, what Apex is like as an employer and how she enjoys spending her free time outside of work.

Describe what your job involves
I care for the older residents in Daleview House and support the nurses on a daily basis. Every day is different!
What do you like most about your job?
I like spending time with residents and getting to know them. It can be a hard transition for new residents and so I always spend time making them feel welcome.
Describe Apex in three words.
Supportive. Understanding. Caring.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?
To be a Care Assistant you must have a caring nature and be patient.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to work in our polytunnel and walk our dogs.
What did you want to be when growing up?
I wanted to work in a bar!
What is the first concert you attended?
I went to see Smokie in the Millennium Forum a few years ago. My children kept me busy when I was younger!
What is your favourite book?
‘Me before you’ by Jojo Moyes.
Favourite motto or personal mantra?
Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself.
