Deirdre Cusack, Housekeeper
Deirdre Cusack has worked as a Housekeeper in Beechwood Court for more than 12 years. Beechwood Court in Derry~Londonderry offers sheltered accommodation for independent living for tenants over the age of 60. We took some time out with Deirdre to chat about her role, what Apex is like as an employer and how she spends her time outside of work.

Describe what your job involves:
I’m responsible for cleaning the communal areas in Beechwood Court. I also report any safety hazards to the Scheme Manager.
What do you like most about your job?
I get a feeling of satisfaction from creating a clean and happy place for the residents to live in.

Inclusive. Supportive. Friendly.
What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?
Don’t be ashamed. Be proud of your job. It may not come with a fancy title but that doesn’t mean your job is any less important.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to walk, go to the cinema and visit family.
What did you want to be when growing up?
I wanted to be a nurse or care giver, as I always had a passion for helping others.
What is the first concert you attended?
One Direction with my daughter Grace.
What is your favourite film?
Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly.
Favourite motto or personal mantra?
No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted.
