Christine Devlin has been a Cook with Apex for 17 years and works in St Julian’s House in Omagh.  We pried Christine away from the kitchen to chat about her role, what Apex is like as an employer and how she enjoys spending time outside work.

Describe what your job involves.

Creating three meals a day for those receiving Housing with Care here in St Julian’s House.

What do you like most about your job?

I love to cook but especially enjoy creating puddings and desserts!  I also enjoy the challenge of making delicious meals for those with special diets.  Finally, and this may be hard to believe, but I enjoy cleaning my kitchen to a high standard!

Describe Apex in three words.

Helpful.  Supportive.  Co-operative. 

What advice would you give someone starting out in your career area?

Take the opportunity to do as much training as you can, to do the job better every day.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy gardening.

What did you want to be when growing up?

I have always wanted to be a cook and enjoy my job so much.

Big Tom and the Mainliners

What is your favourite film?

Home Alone.
